Walking Alongside Our Students at Faith

At Faith, wellbeing is deeply valued and intentionally nurtured. In the article below, Youth Worker Kylie offers a glimpse into her day-to-day role at the Junior School and the heart behind her work – walking alongside students with quiet presence, purposeful support, and faith-driven care.

As I reflect on my first term at the Faith Junior School, I’m filled with gratitude. This is a truly special environment where God is clearly at work. In our small but vibrant community, I see His hand in the everyday moments – and it’s a privilege to be part of it.

My day often begins at the school gate, greeting students and parents. It’s more than just a friendly hello – it’s a way to get a sense of how our school community is feeling that day. Some students arrive a little wobbly, and those moments often turn into gentle walks and chats as we head to class. These early check-ins help me to know who might need a little extra support later.

When recess and lunch roll around, I head out to the playground. Sometimes I stay in one area to be a steady presence for students who need it. Other times, I wander from the bottom oval to lunchtime clubs and up to the new junior playground – chatting, listening, and simply being available. These casual conversations are often filled with laughter, curiosity, and the wonderfully quirky things kids say.

Each week, I meet with our Student Care Team. These meetings are filled with compassion and collaboration as we discuss how best to support students who may be facing challenges. I feel incredibly honoured to be part of a team that is so dedicated to student wellbeing. We explore ideas, share insights, and work together to find the right approach for each individual.

These discussions guide my one-on-one time with students, whether it’s a single conversation to ease a small worry or ongoing sessions to build strategies for navigating life’s ups and downs.

There are days when everything feels calm. Students are happy, settled, and content. On those days, I sometimes wonder if I’m doing enough. But it’s in those quiet moments that I return to a simple prayer: “Lord, guide my steps. Place me where I’m needed most.”

Romans 8:28 reminds us:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

I truly believe God has placed me at Faith for a reason. It’s an honour to walk alongside our students, offering support, encouragement, and care whenever and however they need it.
