Faith Shines Bright with “Midnight – The Cinderella Musical”
Past meets present in a heartwarming celebration of talent, and community spirit.
This May, Faith Lutheran College invites audiences to experience a night of enchantment, laughter, and heartfelt storytelling with its 17th musical production—Midnight – The Cinderella Musical. Proudly produced by Faith’s dedicated Arts team, Midnight brings a distinct twist to the age-old Cinderella story, showcasing the talent, passion, and creativity of students from across the College.
What makes this production especially exciting is the return of Faith graduate and arts advocate Reo Gerhardy, who is supporting the production behind the scenes—and in the spotlight. Reo, a passionate music educator and performer, has been running vocal workshops with the student cast, helping to refine harmonies, build vocal technique, and nurture confidence among first-time performers.
“It’s pretty full circle,” Reo shares. “Now I’m working with the people who gave me the skills and supported my journey. It’s a huge privilege to give back and help create something so special.”
Reo is no stranger to the stage. For many years, he has immersed himself in the local arts scene—performing and teaching with Barossa Dance Company, vocal teaching at Barossa Music School, and even composing original works, which earned him a Merit for Music Explorations in Year 12. Now studying a Bachelor of Music Education Advanced, Reo is majoring in composition and honing his craft as both educator and performer.
“As I’m teaching others, I’m constantly refining my own skills. Being back at Faith and working with both staff and students, has given me a deeper understanding of what it takes to bring a production together.”
Reo’s involvement in Midnight will also include a special on-stage appearance, linking past and present students in a powerful celebration of community, tradition, and shared passion for the arts.
Director Ben Schwarz says, “Reo’s time, energy and passion have been invaluable to our performers. His commitment to mentoring and his love for the arts are inspiring, and we are confident his future in music and composition will be bright as he embarks on his tertiary studies at Adelaide University.”
While Reo lends his expertise, the heart of the production lies with the students, and the staff guiding them. Directed and produced by Faith’s Arts team, Midnight brings together over 70 students from Year 7 to Year 12—many of whom are experiencing the world of musical theatre for the first time. With weekly rehearsals, ensemble training, dance workshops and the guidance of experienced educators, students have embraced the opportunity to collaborate and grow.
Midnight also marks the first time Year 7 students have joined the College’s musical production, symbolising a new chapter in Faith’s long-standing performing arts tradition. The inclusion of the Junior School Choir adds another layer of community spirit, as voices from across the College come together to tell Ella’s story—a story of courage, creativity, and self-discovery.
Reo adds, “One of the most beautiful parts of working in the arts is that it’s always a team effort. This production is one massive project that everyone puts their heart and soul into. You can feel that energy when you’re in the room. I hope audiences leave Midnight not just entertained, but excited about the future of the arts in the Barossa.”
With a lively score by celebrated Australian composer John Foreman and a fresh, empowering take on a classic fairy tale, Midnight promises to captivate audiences of all ages. And with Faith’s world class facilities—including one of the largest stages in South Australia—the production offers students and the audience, a truly professional experience.
