Pastoral Care is an integral part of Faith Lutheran School and underpins the way we foster our community.
The basis for Pastoral Care at Faith begins with God and His attitude towards people. It is an attitude of ultimate love and care.
‘See how much the Father has loved us. His love is so great that we are called God’s children – and so, in fact, we are.’ 1 John 3:1
Faith’s Pastoral Care refers to developing a community in which:
Each member is known and acknowledged
Each member is valued and affirmed
Each member is supported especially in times of difficulty; and
The prevailing spirit is one of reconciliation
Faith has a range of structures that help to foster the personal and spiritual development of students and assist them in developing the skills to care for themselves and others.
A. Village Care Group (Vertical Structure)
Faith’s structure designed to help nurture and support students is the Village Care Group. Each group of around 32 students is vertically structured and includes students from Years 8-12. Each Village is led by 2 teaching staff that remain with the students as they progress through their secondary education. These staff members are the first point of contact for personal or academic issues related to the student. This ensures:
Continuity of care over 5 years
Continuity of contact with families
Development of a sense of belonging and being part of a community
Allows for development of a strong peer support programme
B. Year Level Activities and the Year Level Coordinator
Students also meet with their Year Level on a regular basis for community building and devotions. The Year Level is led by the Year Level Coordinator who oversees the tone and socialisation of the Year Level. They are responsible for organising camps, retreats and other activities that involved the entire Year Level.
C. Peer Support
D. Spiritual and Counselling Staff
The school has other staff that support and work to develop the Pastoral Care in the school. These include
